module 1: build confidence, courage and calm resilience
Navigating your way through difficult terrain takes confidence and courage, especially if you’re taking a team with you. In this module we use the Lumina Spark Portrait to help you get a strong sense of who you are, what strengths you bring and what makes you unique. When you stand firmly in this place, you exude confidence and feel more courageous as you move into the unknown. And when things get tough, with self-awareness and mindfulness you can ensure you stay calm and resilient.
One of the important aspects about the Lumina Spark Portrait is that it doesn’t box you in to being a “type.” Instead it fosters the thinking it’s possible to have preferences that are actually opposite qualities, for example you can be both “introverted” and “extroverted.” It also doesn’t imply that one is more favorable that the other.
So as leaders, when you can embrace this paradox it enables to you accept your preferences for what they are (i.e. accept and appreciate your natural self) at the same time giving you the power and permission to “dial up” or “dial down” any of the the other qualities. Stewart Desson explains this very important concept in more detail.
Your Lumina Spark Portrait is built around 24 qualities. To learn more about each quality from an everyday standpoint and how they show up when you’re overextended, download the PDF guide below:
When you’re navigating your way through an environment that is uncertain, volatile and ambiguous, there are times when the pressure can take its toll. So how do you react under pressure?
Look for qualities where your underlying and everyday scores are low, and your overextension score is high. Think about:
- what is the potential impact of this behavior?
- what triggers it?
- what can you do to help you get grounded and centered
This self-awareness is important for staying calm and resilient in challenging times.

Go to the page with the 24 qualities broken down into Underlying, Everyday and Overextended. Identify the qualities in each of these categories:
- Strengths: Underlying >70 and Everyday >70
- Amplifiers: Underlying <30 and Everyday >70
- Hidden Treasures: Underlying >70 and Everyday <30
- Weakspots: Underlying <30 and Everyday <30
You will be given more detailed self-reflection questions to ponder on in your Personal Tracker. Here are some to get you started.
