Take a creative concept you’re developing.
Step 1: What do you want to disrupt?
Create the following statement “How can we disrupt the competitive landscape of [insert your situation] by delivering an unexpected solution?”
Step 2: What are the clichés?
Research your market and the competitors.
- What are the product clichés?
- What are the pricing clichés?
- What are the interaction clichés?
Step 3: What are some disruptive hypotheses?
Reflect on each cliché:
- What could you invert (move in a different direction?)
- What could you deny (take out or eliminate?)
- What could you scale (magnify or expand?)
Sit back and reflect on your insights and ideas.
- Which idea stands out the most?
- Which edge or advantage would it give you?
- How could you make it happen?
Bring the group together and work on a concept that you’re developing.

Step 2: What are the clichés?
Research your market and the competitors. Brainstorm together on the following clichés:
- What are the product clichés?
- What are the pricing clichés?
- What are the interaction clichés?
Step 3: What are some disruptive hypotheses?
Break into sub-groups and brainstorm on each cliché:
- What could you invert (move in a different direction?)
- What could you deny (take out or eliminate?)
- What could you scale (magnify or expand?)
Regroup and reflect on your insights and ideas.
- Which idea stands out the most?
- Which edge or advantage would it give you?
- How could you make it happen?
In this short video clip (2.46 mins) Luke Williams shares how disruptive thinking can help you stay ahead of the game.
