self-reflection:
Think about how you naturally solve problems:
- How often do you tend to solve the problem in front of you?
- What benefits can you see for taking a step back and considering the underlying causes?
- How might you integrate more of this approach into your daily life?
- What new insights have been sparked by this lesson?
action learning:
Take a problem or challenge you’re trying to solve.
- Draw a Fishbone Diagram
- Write the problem at the head of the fish
- Then ask “Why does this happen? and write down the possible causes on each “bone”
- Then for each cause, ask “Why does this happen?” and brainstorm on possible underlying reasons for each cause
- Finally brainstorm ideas to solve some of these underlying reasons
What fresh ideas or perspectives havebeen revealed?
Bring the group together and identify a problem you want to solve.
- Brainstorm on all the possible causes
- Pick 4-6 of the most important causes
- Break out into sub-groups and brainstorm on possible reasons for those causes. Choose your top 5 reasons.
- Come back together and create your Fishbone Diagram using the input from each sub-group
- Then break out into different sub-groups and brainstorm on ideas to solve each cause
- Come back together and pool all your ideas
- Choose your top five
What actions will you take?
